Steel Exterior Doors for Seattle Homes

A new steel door on an ornate home

Steel exterior doors are an excellent choice for homeowners who want strong security, lasting durability, and a clean, timeless look at the entryway. A great option for many home styles, steel doors are especially well suited to Seattle’s wetter climate because they stand up well to rain, moisture, and the wear that comes with changing weather conditions.

At Signature Window, we provide high-quality steel door installation, repair, and replacement services. As a trusted ProVia partner, our team understands how to install steel doors with precision so you get reliable performance, energy efficiency, and long-term value from your investment.

Why Seattle Homeowners Choose Steel Exterior Doors

Seattle homeowners choose Steel Exterior Doors because they offer a rare combination of security, durability, and efficiency. Unlike lighter alternatives, residential exterior steel doors are built with strong outer panels, insulated cores, and reinforced frames that create a reliable barrier at your home’s entrance.

That strength matters in the Pacific Northwest. Steel doors hold up well in wet weather, resist everyday wear, and help reduce energy loss through the entryway. Over time, homeowners also appreciate the long-term value, since a quality steel door can improve curb appeal, increase resale confidence, and reduce the need for frequent replacement.

What Makes ProVia Legacy Steel Doors Different

ProVia Legacy steel doors stand out because they are built with heavier 20- to 24-gauge steel, which gives them noticeably greater strength than many standard options. In fact, they contain nearly 50% more steel than typical residential doors, creating a more secure and structurally stable entry system.

That added strength is backed by rigorous ASTM testing standards and reinforced construction in critical areas like the frame and lockset. These details matter because they improve impact resistance, support long-term performance, and help the door maintain its shape under daily use, changing temperatures, and the damp conditions Seattle homes face year after year.

Built for the Pacific Northwest Climate

Seattle homeowners looking for custom steel exterior doors need a product that can handle moisture, temperature swings, and long wet seasons. Steel doors are a strong fit for this climate because they resist many of the issues that affect other materials, including swelling, warping, and gradual deterioration from repeated exposure.

That durability becomes even more valuable when paired with a baked-on finish, insulated core, and quality glass options. Exterior steel doors with glass can still deliver reliable performance when properly built and installed, helping maintain indoor comfort while preserving the door’s appearance and structural stability through years of Pacific Northwest weather.

Design Options for Custom Steel Exterior Doors

Today’s steel front doors residential homeowners choose offer far more design flexibility than many people expect. Exterior doors steel systems can be customized in sizes up to 8 feet tall, making them a strong option for both standard entries and more dramatic front elevations.

Homeowners can also choose from decorative glass inserts, privacy glass styles, wood-grain finishes, and smooth painted surfaces to match the look of the home. For added practicality, some doors can even include factory-installed pet doors, giving you a custom entry solution that feels intentional, functional, and tailored to the way you actually live.

Steel Front Doors vs. Wood and Fiberglass

When comparing entry door materials, steel usually leads in security, while wood offers classic character and fiberglass provides versatile style with lower maintenance. For many homeowners, the decision comes down to which performance benefits matter most in daily life and in Seattle’s damp climate.

Steel generally requires less upkeep than wood and offers stronger impact resistance. Fiberglass resists moisture well and can mimic wood beautifully, but steel remains a standout for strength and value. In terms of energy efficiency and longevity, all three can perform well when properly built, though steel often delivers the best balance of protection, durability, and cost.

Exterior Steel Double Entry Doors & French Door Options

Exterior steel double entry doors are a strong choice for homes with larger entryways, taller openings, or a more formal front elevation. Double steel exterior doors create a broader, more dramatic entrance while still delivering the durability and security homeowners expect from steel construction.

For homes that need more glass and light, exterior steel French doors offer another attractive option. These styles combine visual openness with the strength of steel, giving homeowners a way to enhance curb appeal without giving up performance. When properly designed and installed, both options bring elegance, presence, and dependable everyday protection.

I cannot praise Signature highly enough. We hired them in 2012 to replace all of our windows and two sliding doors - the work was excellent and we love our Simonton windows. We just hired them again to rebuild our two-story entryway and install a Perva door and new windows. From the very thorough conversations with our salesperson, Vitaliy, to the scheduling with the office staff, to the actual installation - everything is as professional and high quality as you can find. We gathered quotes from three other companies but none of them went to any effort to truly lay out how the job would be accomplished. Photos show the old & new interior side, and the new exterior. Still needs painting but we're so happy!

After an extensive vetting process and comparing multiple options, I confidently chose Signature Windows & Doors for my home, and they absolutely delivered. The Marvin brand windows they installed are beautiful and of incredibly high quality—the craftsmanship speaks for itself. Beyond the great product, the installation process was truly exceptional. The crew was professional, precise, and made the entire project seamless from start to finish. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-tier windows and flawless execution. I had a fantastic experience with Signature Windows & Doors.

We called our project "The Window From Hell." It was a HUGE trapezoid window up high in a 2-story living room, and it needed to be replaced after its seal failed. I got bids, and was the most impressed with Danny L at Signature Windows. We had a tight deadline because the home was going on the market and access to the window, especially in the rain, was really challenging. Meeting the deadline, and the safety of the installers, were non-negotiable. Danny came out the very next day to measure the Window From Hell and, not only did he give me the best price, but his company was the only one that had all the scaffolding equipment readily available at no extra charge. The window arrived sooner than expected, and installation was quickly scheduled to meet the deadline. Then we hit a snag: some epic rain made the cedar roof too slippery for safe conditions. Brent and his crew of expert (and very brave) installers rigged up a safe way to haul this brand-new Mother of ALL Windows up to the second floor and install it using very long ladders, secure scaffolding, and harnesses. I think we had 4 or 5 installers for this job. It took all day to get the old Window From Hell out and the new Mother of All Windows installed. But what a job! Perfect caulk lines, perfect cleaning of the glass, perfect clean-up of the job site, indoors and out. Job done ON TIME, SAFELY, and at an excellent price. If Signature can handle my Window From Hell, I am very confident they can install ordinary double-hung windows that exceed your expectations for quality, price, timeliness, and workmanship. I highly recommend Signature Windows.

Everything from the initial consultation, regular updates on my order and installation was wonderful. The most recent installation was the third time I've had Signature replace old windows and I've been so pleased every time. They took the time to explain which windows needed replacement and provided options without any sales pressure. It's so nice to work with a company that believes in great customer service and offers quality products.

We have chosen to work with Danny and his team at Signature Window & Door twice now. We love the quality of the windows and the help they provide in the design process all the way to the finished installation. We put in a 15' folding door at our last home. It was a showstopper! Highly recommend them to bring your home back to life with beautiful windows that are built to last!

We bought a house that needed all new windows & sliding glass doors replaced. So we did our research and visited window replacement companies to see & touch different window & screen types. We decided to work with Signature Window primarily based on customer service as we received during the research & planning process with Office personnel (friendly, helpful, responsive) & Sales team (product knowledge, design assistance, open & honest).

1st Project (Aug 24) - 8 windows & 1 Sliding Door
2nd Project (Feb 25) - 1 ceiling to floor large window & 2 windows
Product of windows & door was excellent - we are extremely happy.

The customer service experience was superb. We worked with Sales Rep, Scheduler, Window Measuring Rep & Installers - all were friendly, open & honest, communicative, assisted with design & product knowledgeable. Installers did an awesome job with project cleanliness & kept busy all day long.

We are extremely satisfied with our overall experience with window replacement with Signature Windows 🥰
